Certain Times Call For Certain Measures
It’s only when you get to a certain age (for me it was when I started dreaming about email marketing software ) that you realize you have reached a certain age. There’s no warning, so if you’re sixteen years old or even eighteen then don’t think you’re that far away from it; you’re not. It’ll creep up and get you, mark my words.
Yeah you laugh, but you won’t be soon!
Yesterday evening my friend and I were sitting by the river. The sun was shining. He had a beer and I had wine, he was a man, I was (and am) a woman. Our conversation was the usual: how are you? Crap thanks. Me too. And then there was laughter nearby, the laughter of youths. We tried to ignore it but being of a certain age, we couldn’t do so. As evolution would have it we were to become angry for no reason, jaded by the shackles of age.
Barrel of laughs we were! Did I say I am only in my 20s?
Anyway, so all this youthful laughter seemed to be leading somewhere. Then one of them got up and ran towards the river, fully clothed, and just jumped in. Just like that!
“I’d love to do that,” said my friend Mat, “but sadly I am of a certain age.”
I punched him in the arm. “Don’t let that stop you, come on, we can do it too it’s not too late!” I told him, and grabbed his arm and started running. In less than a second we were smiling, laughing and almost at the waters edge–
We came to a halt just before it. We weren’t going in, of course. We were of a certain age, so running and pretending we were going to do it was enough.
Lame I know, but still, it’s the thought that counts, right?
